Balneology" Journal
Publishing regulations in "Balneologia Polska"
"Balneologia
Polska" is an official magazine of the Polish Association of Balneology
and Physical Medicine and the only scientific and educational periodical
devoted exclusively to health resort treatment. The Board of Editors
accept for publication original previously reviewed research-, opinion-
and case study papers concerning balneology, bioclimatology, physical
medicine, physiotherapy, cryotherapy, kinezytheraphy, pressure therapy
and rehabilitation, as well as reviews of books and administrative and
organizational accounts from health resorts. "Balneologia Polska"
publishes also reports and materials from scientific conferences, information
about future congresses, seminars, editorials, and other congresses.
The Board of Editors endorse the principles embodied in The Declaration
of Helsinki and The Interdisciplinary Principles and Guidelines
for the Use of Animals in Research, Testing, and Education issued by
the New York Academy Research. All human- and animal-related studies
should be conducted according to ethical rules.
REVIEW
PROCESS
Manuscripts are evaluated on the basis whether they present new insights
to the investigation topic, are likely to contribute overall research
process or whther they provide a change in clinical practice. Preliminary
evaluation is conducted by the Board of Editors. Manuscripts with insufficient
priority for publication are rejected promptly. Incomplete manuscripts
or those not prepared in the advised style are sent back to their authors
without scientific review. Accepted manuscripts are registered and sent
to independent experts for evaluation. Submitted papers are accepted
for publication after a positive opinion passed by independent reviewers.
CONFLICT
OF INTEREST
Authors of research articles should disclose at the time of submission
any financial arrangement they may have with a company whose product
figures prominently in the submitted manuscript or with a company making
a competing product. Such information will be held in confidence while
the paper is under review processes and will not influence the editorial
decision.
PERMISSIONS
Papers accepted for publication need to be accompanied by a written
statement that it has not been published before. In case materials have
been published before elsewhere, they must be accompanied by a written
statement from both the author and the previous publisher giving permission
to the "Balenologia Polska" for reproduction. If it is possible
to identify a patient from a case report, there should also be given
a written permission for publishing on an illustration or in a paper.

Every effort is made by the Publisher and the Board of Editors that
no inaccurate or misleading data, opinion or statement is published
in "Balneologia Polska". However, they wish to make it clear
that some data and opinions appearing in the articles and advertisements
herein are the responsibility of the contributor, sponsor, or advertiser.
The Editors reserve the right to correct and abbreviate the text.
PREPARATION
FOR MANUSCRIPT
Guidelines for submission are in accordance with Uniform Requirements
for Manuscript Submitted to Biomedical Journals (N. Eng. J. Med. 1997;
336:309-315). Computer printouts are to be sent to the Editors in two
copies. The manuscript should be typewritten on A4 white paper, double-spaced.
Margins should not be smaller that 3cm at top, bottom, right and left,
and a page should not include more that 30 lines. Each part of the manuscript
should include: a title page, a summary page (Polish, English and Russian),
key words (Polish, English and Russian), acknowledgements, references,
tables and figures. The pages must be numbered, including the title
page. The full term for which an abbreviation stands for should be given
in brackets when it is use in the text for the first time. Abbreviations
not accepted by international groups of experts should be avoided.
ORIGINAL PAPERS SHOULD INCLUDE
A title page should include a full title of the article in Polish, English
and Russian, academic titles, first names and second names of the author(s),
and the name of the institution, the first name and second name with
academic degree of the person with whom the paper originates from. Following
the references, information concerning Additionally, there should be
information about the first and second name, address, telephone number
and e-mail address of the academic responsible for the correspondence
concerning manuscripts. Source(s) of support in the form of the grant
and the present job information of the authors should be also included.
SUMMARY
A summary in Polish, English and Russian should consist of 150-250 words.
In the original paper the following parts should be distinguished: background,
materials and methods, results, conclusions. Below the summary there
should be 3-10 key words in Polish, English and Russian, used as advised
in the Medical Subject Headings Index Medicus.
TEXT
Original papers should be divided into paragraphs labeled: background,
material and method, results, discussion, conclusions, and the text
should be divided into passages containing compact content. Opinion
papers can be divided in a different way. The suggested volume of the
article cannot be exceeded. Original papers should be 3000 words long,
opinion papers - 6000, case studies - 2000, and letters - 1000. The
above mentioned limits do not include summary, tables, references. Additional
information and acknowledgements can be placed at the end of the text,
before the references. The original papers must be approved by the academic
who is responsible for the research.
REFERENCES
References must be numbered consecutively as they are cited in the text,
not in the alphabetic order. The abbreviations of the journal titles
should be used according to the Index Medicus. Each item started from
the new verse should be numbered and should contain: the name(s) and
the initials of the author(s) name, the title of the article, the name
of the journal where it was published (the abbreviations of the papers
should be compliant with the Index Medicus, the edition year, the volume
number in Arabic numerals, the number of a copy, the opening- and last-page
number. If there are more than seven authors, the name of the first
three should be given followed by an "et al." annotation.
The references within the text should be in Arabic numerals and in brackets.
In case of quotation there should be stated: the following number of
position, the author, the title, the publisher, the place and the year
of edition. Referring to the content of a chapter in the book, the following
information should be given: the name of the author, their initials,
the title of a paragraph, the name of the author/editor, name initials,
the title of the book, the publisher, place and year of edition, number
of pages.
DIAGRAMS,
FIGURES, SLIDES, BLACK&WHITE AND COLOR PHOTOGRAPHS
They should be provided in a separate envelope, numbered, printed and
labeled with the name and second name of the author, also with the title
of the article with indication "up," "down." Their
descriptions should be given on a separate piece of paper with table
numbers in Arabic numerals. Photographs should be glossy prints of high
quality allowing for resizing, within the range from 13cm x 18cm to
15cm x 20cm. Photographs should be accompanied by a written agreement
for republishing.
TABLES
Tables should be placed each on a separate page should be numbered in
Roman numerals and preceded by adequate titles above corresponding tables.
Descriptions of the tables need to be printed on a separate page with
their numbers in Roman numerals.
ELECTRONIC
RECORD OF THE TEXT
Computer printouts should be accompanied by a data carrier. The Board
of Editors accept CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs. The description on the data
carrier should contain the name and second name of the author and the
exact title of the article. Texts and graphics should constitute their
own files. Pasting pictures, graphs, slides, charts, photographs, and
other graphics to the text files is not allowed. The Editor recommends
the following text editors: Star Office, Word, and Word Perfect. The
photographs should be coded in JPG format, pictures, charts, and tables
in Microsoft Excel or EPS. The preferred resolution of tographs is 300
DPI. In case of scanning small elements the resolution should be higher
(preferred 600 DPI). It is advisable to use 12-point fonts.
SENDING THE MANUSCRIPT TO THE JOURNAL
The authors are requested to send two copies of the manuscript to the
Editor. The author should send the required number of copies of the
manuscript in a heavy paper envelope, enclosing the copies and figures
in cardboard if necessary to prevent photographs from being bent. Manuscripts
must be accompanied by a cover letter signed by all the authors.
The
cover letter must clearly state that:
1. Paper
has neither been published before, nor has been subject to duplicate
publication or submission elsewhere
2. Paper is approved by all the co-authors and managers of the centers
from which they originate
3. Requirements for authorship are accepted by all the authors
4. All source of financing have been revealed
5. The authors(s) have an access to necessary information know and accept
the rules of publication and will obey them

CORESSPONDANCE
Articles can be sent via e-mail to bd@medi-press.pl.
Attachments are accepted. It is advised that all parts of the article
(text, illustration, tables, photographs, etc.) be sent as separate
files. To speed up data transfer please compress the files if possible
using *zip format.
The material sent in with the review, remain among the documentation
with the Board of Editors. The Publisher purchases, on the basis of
exclusiveness, copyrights for the published papers (including e.g. CD-ROMs
and in the Internet). Reprinting summaries is allowed without written
permission from the Editor.
